DIY Earthtone Stucco Bungalow
Get a great custom look to your exterior without breaking the bank. It’s possible! With a clear vision and a little planning, you can make your current house, your dream house. Take this lovely bungalow. It had an easy stucco exterior, which acts as a blank canvas to layer on color, texture and simple architectural details. And check out the nice roofline with multiple gables. This is a diamond in the rough.
Earthy Crafstman with Architectural Details
The most recognizable features of the Craftsman vernacular are the long and low lines, heavy masses and simple details that highlight the underlying structure of the home. We accomplish that here with some stone facing to break up the facade. Exterior molding adds the horizontal lines and gable pieces and chunky columns really feel Craftsman. The warm gray/green is cozy and earthy and “grounded” by the deep gray roof. (Scroll down for resources and colors).

Rich Colors
Maybe all those facade additions are too expensive or too fussy. You can accomplish nearly the same feeling with just paint! Instead of stone, use two deep earth tone paints to break up the facade. Windows and doors are emphasized with a combinations of black and white trim. It’s really sharp and high-contrast.

Friendly Caribbean/Mediterranean
If Craftsman feels too dark, brighten things up with a Spanish style – which always works well with stucco. The addition of Bermuda shutters adds just the right amount of facade detail and brings richness to the flat walls. White details help to pop out the yellow (check out the fancy louver covers too!) Lastly, don’t neglect the driveway! The driveway is often the largest expanse of surface on your home’s exterior. Just adding these brick pavers warms up the entire lot.

Great transformation by adding those very Craftsman-like columns to really define this ranch house. Love it! But what would you do if you couldn’t change the roof color of this ranch? Would the “rich colors” version look good with the white roof? Lots of white in that view – would it support the white roof? What do you think? Thanks!
What program did you use to alter the exterior, Photoshop? I definitely need to do this for our bungalow. If only to test paint colors. Thanks!
Yes, Photoshop all the way. Love that program! I am overdue for a makeover blogpost actually. If you are interested, I could do you up a virtual makeover. All you have to do is send me some photos and your color preferences. Send me a note via our contact form if you’d like. Although, if you are familiar with Photoshop, it’s pretty easy work it yourself too…
This is really nice Photoshop…
