Our reader and homeowner from “Boring Brown” inspired me to create this Mochi Quickie. She found some stylish gray chevron fabric to incorporate into her new look. But she wasn’t sure how to do it.
I recommend introducing the new pattern in two different locations in the room. This keeps the room balanced and feels intentional. For fabric, the obvious choices are pillows and curtains.
Store-bought and Simple
I’m a crafty, DIY kind of girl, but my time is precious. I have sewn curtains from scratch, but please save yourself the sweat and tears. Buy a nice readymade curtain and just give it a custom stripe of your favorite fabric. Do the same for a basic pillow.
To Sew or Not to Sew?
If you have a sewing machine (and know how to use it), sew on your strips with a nice topstitch. If you don’t sew (or can’t be bothered), try no sew hem tape. Instead of stitching the edges, just iron it on with this tape. If you need more inspiration or instruction, check out this great tutorial from Remodelaholic (love their striped curtain too!).
Do the same for the pillows. Or, if you are super lazy, like I can be, just cut some strips and tie/paperclip them onto your pillow. You can check that out here (scroll to the bottom for the pillow.)
Don’t be afraid to hack your store-bought accessories and get the custom look you want!
